You Loved Me First
By Neeve Hadar
——————————————————
You are my hero, Dad.
My prince in shining armor.
My sun that never fades, my moon that never wanes.
You are the angel on my shoulder.
I feel you there,
all the time.
Guiding me through pain,
through joy,
through triumph.
Feeling everything right alongside me,
even if you are not around.
Any man can call himself
A Father.
But it takes something special to be
A Dad.
You have swept me off my feet more than
any boy ever could,
and ever would.
The way you dazzle my mother with gifts,
The way you smile at me when you walk Into the kitchen after work,
The way you say I make you proud.
The way you love your kids unconditionally even if we are loud.
It doesn’t matter if i’m growing older because
even now,
when you hold my hand
as we cross the street,
I am still your little girl.
No matter how tall I get I will always look up to you,
because you have taught me everything,
except how to live without you.
And when that day comes,
And i’m dressed in lace and pearls,
I am forever, and always,
Your little girl.
Because you are the one,
Who “loved [me] first.”
